Common Pantry Expands Services at New North Center Facility as Holiday Season Approaches
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/North Center ·
North Center residents have a renewed resource for food assistance this holiday season as Common Pantry, Chicago's longest continuously operating food pantry, settles into its new facility at 3908 N. Lincoln Avenue. The organization, which has served the community since 1967, is preparing for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons with special holiday meal distributions planned for November 24th and December 19th.
The new 3,500-square-foot location represents a significant upgrade from their previous basement space, featuring an accessible layout with a commercial kitchen, dedicated dining area, and outdoor courtyard for community gathering. The move, which was completed earlier this year, was made possible through state grants and community contributions, with Chicago Wolves owner Don Levin making a notable $50,000 donation to help accelerate the pantry's vision.
"This space was created with input from the people we serve," said Margaret O'Conor, Executive Director of Common Pantry. North Center residents interested in supporting their neighbors can volunteer during the pantry's regular distribution hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, or contribute to their holiday donation drive to help ensure all community members have access to nutritious food during the festive season.
