Lake View Unveils New Vision: Community Plan Prioritizes Walkability and Green Spaces
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Lake View ·
Lake View residents now have a clear roadmap for their neighborhood's future with the release of Alderman Bennett Lawson's comprehensive community plan this week. The new plan, developed after extensive input from locals, outlines strategies for thoughtful growth while preserving the neighborhood's unique character.
Residents overwhelmingly expressed desire for enhanced walkability and expanded green spaces, which now form the foundation of the plan. Key improvements include wider sidewalks, raised crosswalks, better lighting, and curb bump-outs—especially around Clark Street and commercial districts. The plan also calls for a review of high-traffic intersections and addition of bus shelters at currently uncovered stops. Beyond walkability, the plan addresses the neighborhood's limited green space by proposing pocket parks, new plantings along commercial corridors, and creative use of areas beneath the 'L' tracks. "We finally have a roadmap," Lawson said. "People told us what they care about, and now we're putting the tools in place to get there."
With implementation beginning soon, Lake View residents interested in learning more or getting involved can visit the 44th Ward office website for details on upcoming projects and community meetings. The plan represents an exciting step forward in enhancing what many already consider one of Chicago's most vibrant neighborhoods.
