Award-Winning WEAR Garden Relocates to Winona Street, Expanding Edgewater's Green Spaces

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Edgewater ·

Edgewater's beloved community garden is blooming in a new location as the award-winning Horst & Anna Wagener WEAR Garden has moved to 1500 W. Winona at the AT&T parking lot for 2025. The garden, which has been recognized again for its dedication and beauty, features native plants, a butterfly sanctuary, and a centerpiece mural providing a colorful retreat for neighborhood residents.

Local business Gethsemane Garden Center has provided generous donations to support the WEAR Garden initiative, sharing in the mission to make gardens, porches, and patches throughout Andersonville and Edgewater more colorful and green. The garden serves as both a community gathering spot and environmental education resource, welcoming visitors to learn about native plant species and sustainable urban gardening practices. Residents interested in contributing to this community green space can participate in upcoming planning, planting, and construction projects.

Community members are encouraged to visit the new location to enjoy the seating area and view the unique garden design that has made this space a neighborhood point of pride. For more information about volunteer opportunities or upcoming events at the garden, residents can contact the West Edgewater Area Residents organization through their website.
