West Englewood Residents Shape Future of Englewood Nature Trail at November Public Hearing

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·

West Englewood residents demonstrated strong community engagement at the November 15 public hearing for the Englewood Nature Trail, marking a significant milestone for this transformative neighborhood project. The hearing provided community members an opportunity to review plans and offer crucial input that will shape the framework for the 2-mile linear park set to begin construction in Summer 2026.

The Englewood Nature Trail will transform a vacated rail corridor from Wallace Street to Hoyne Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets into a naturalized space for residents to enjoy. As the centerpiece of the innovative Englewood Agro-Eco District, the first of its kind in the nation, the trail will serve as a connector between the neighborhood's growing network of urban farms and gardens, fostering local food access, health and wellness, business development, and employment opportunities. The project is guided by the "Englewood Agro-Eco District Land Use Plan," which was officially adopted by the Chicago Plan Commission in August 2024 to support food-related investments along the trail.

Community members who couldn't attend the November 15 hearing can still participate by reviewing the presentation materials on the Grow Greater Englewood website and submitting feedback to help shape this neighborhood-defining project. The trail represents a significant investment in West Englewood's future as a hub for urban agriculture, green space, and community wellness.
