Oakland's Mandrake Park to Host Special Thanksgiving Weekend Community Gathering
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Oakland ·
Oakland residents looking for post-Thanksgiving activities have something special to look forward to this weekend. The Mandrake Park Advisory Council announced a special community gathering scheduled for Saturday, November 29, featuring seasonal activities and a winter coat collection drive to support local families.
The event builds on Mandrake Park's tradition of hosting special community events throughout the year. Known for its beautifully maintained athletic track and landscaped grounds, the park has become a cornerstone of Oakland's ongoing revitalization efforts. "Mandrake Park continues to be a hub for bringing neighbors together, especially during the holiday season," shared Maya Thompson, a regular participant in the park's year-round programming.
Residents are encouraged to bring gently used winter clothing items to contribute to the collection drive, which will benefit the Oakland Community Center's seasonal support programs. The gathering will run from 12:00pm to 4:00pm, featuring local vendors, hot beverages, and family activities. Community members interested in volunteering or learning more about upcoming winter programming at Mandrake Park can contact the Advisory Council through the Chicago Park District website.
