Humboldt Park's
3.1 Million Renovation to Include Museum Glass Atrium and Formal Garden Restoration

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Humboldt Park ·

Humboldt Park residents will soon enjoy major improvements across their beloved 207-acre park as part of a recently announced

3.1 million investment project. The comprehensive renovation includes upgrading the lower level of the historic fieldhouse with new function rooms and infrastructure improvements to prevent flooding, along with accessibility enhancements throughout the entire park.

One highlight of the project is the construction of a glass atrium for the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture, which will create 6,000 square feet of year-round program space. This addition builds upon the museum's ongoing 25th anniversary celebrations, which already included the completion of a garden and community space in September. "By early spring, we can begin to see those improvements to the formal garden; it's one of the most beautiful assets of the park," noted Alderperson Jessie Fuentes after the funding package was approved. Additional renovations include improvements to tennis courts, rehabilitation of standalone restrooms, and an extensive overhaul of the existing pool house.

Community members interested in learning more about the park improvements or getting involved with planning can contact the Humboldt Park Advisory Council for upcoming meeting information, or visit the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture to experience the newly completed garden space while watching the atrium project take shape.
