Growing Home Launches Holiday Harvest Festival at West Englewood Urban Farm
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·
West Englewood residents will have an opportunity to celebrate the season's bounty this weekend as Growing Home hosts its inaugural Holiday Harvest Festival at their Wood Street Urban Farm. The USDA-certified organic farm at 5814 S. Wood Street has transformed its winter market into a festive community celebration featuring cooking demonstrations, children's activities, and a showcase of seasonal produce grown right in the neighborhood.
The festival highlights Growing Home's continued commitment to providing fresh, locally-grown produce year-round in West Englewood. Executive Director Janelle St. John announced that the event will also serve as a preview of the organization's planned $25 million expansion project, which aims to double their workforce development program capacity and enhance year-round growing capabilities. "This celebration represents our vision for West Englewood as a hub for urban agriculture and economic opportunity," St. John explained during a recent community meeting outlining the expansion plans.
Residents interested in supporting this local initiative can visit the Holiday Harvest Festival this Saturday from 10am to 3pm at the Wood Street Urban Farm location. Visitors will have opportunities to participate in seasonal cooking demonstrations, learn about urban agriculture practices, and sign up for Growing Home's 2026 community garden plots and workforce development programs.
