Oakland's Community Garden Network Expands with New Beautification Project

The Oakland neighborhood is celebrating a significant expansion of its community garden network as part of the 2025 Shirley J. Newsome Beautification Grant program. A standout project is the Oakland Museum and Garden Preservation initiative by the Oakland Cultural Alliance, which recently completed rebuilding and refurbishing public bench seating and replacing fencing areas around sunflower plantings. These improvements are designed to enhance community use of this beloved neighborhood space. The project represents another positive step in Oakland's ongoing neighborhood revitalization, which has transformed it into a flourishing South Side community.
