Chicago History Museum Unveils Groundbreaking 'Aquí en Chicago' Exhibition in Lincoln Park
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Lincoln Park ·
Lincoln Park's Chicago History Museum has opened its doors to a groundbreaking new exhibition, 'Aquí en Chicago,' showcasing the rich cultural heritage and history of Latino/a/e communities in Chicago. The exhibition, which opened on October 25, traces the lives of Latino/a/e communities that have maintained a persistent cultural presence in Chicago since the 1800s, offering residents a chance to explore this vital part of the city's history through art, photographs, interviews, clothing, personal items, and historical treasures.
The exhibition emerged from a meaningful community dialogue when students from Instituto Justice and Leadership Academy protested the museum in 2019 for the lack of Latino/a/e representation in its displays. Their activism stood on the shoulders of past Latino/a/es and allies who fought against cultural erasure and systemic racism. Presented in both English and Spanish, the exhibition creates an accessible cultural experience for all Lincoln Park residents and visitors.
Neighborhood residents interested in exploring this powerful new exhibition can visit the Chicago History Museum during regular hours. With the Thanksgiving weekend ahead, the exhibition provides a perfect opportunity for families to engage with Chicago's diverse cultural heritage while supporting a cornerstone Lincoln Park institution. Museum members receive free admission, while tickets for non-members can be purchased online or at the door.
