By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Pilsen ·

Pilsen's housing landscape is transforming with the recent groundbreaking of Casa Yucatán, an eight-story affordable housing development bringing 98 new homes to the neighborhood. The Resurrection Project's $62 million development at 1609 W. 21st Place near Ashland Avenue marks a significant milestone in addressing housing affordability concerns in the community.

Designed by local firm DesignBridge with a distinctive U-shaped structure, the building will offer a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments with rents ranging from $551 to

,768 per month. The development includes family-friendly amenities such as a children's playground, courtyard, multi-purpose room, and bike storage. Casa Yucatán received
5.8 million from Chicago's Housing and Economic Development Bond, making it one of the first projects funded through this initiative aimed at creating affordable housing throughout the city.

Pilsen residents interested in applying for apartments can expect applications to open next summer, with construction estimated to be completed by fall 2026. The development's location offers convenient access to Benito Juarez High School, Cooper Dual Language Academy, and the CTA Pink Line, making it an ideal home for families looking to maintain their roots in a neighborhood that has seen rental costs increase by 40 percent between 2015 and 2023.
