Portage Park Launches First Indoor Winter Farmers Market for 2025 Holiday Season
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Portage Park ·
Portage Park is expanding its popular farmers market season with the launch of its first indoor Winter Farmers Market, hosted at the Congregational Church of Jefferson Park. The new winter market initiative, organized by Faith in Place and Friends of Portage Park, will provide residents with continued access to fresh, local produce and artisanal goods throughout the colder months.
The market will participate in the Link Match program, allowing SNAP benefit recipients to stretch their food dollars further, with purchases matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25 per transaction. This program not only helps families afford healthy options but also supports local producers and strengthens the community's food system. Visitors can expect a diverse selection of vendors offering organic baked goods, seasonal vegetables, artisanal cheeses, honey, jams, handcrafted soaps, and prepared foods from local producers.
The indoor market will operate on select Sundays from December through March, with the inaugural market scheduled for Sunday, December 7, coinciding with the Northwest Side Holiday Trolley event. Residents interested in learning more about vendor opportunities or volunteer positions can contact the Portage Park Chamber of Commerce or attend the next Portage Park Advisory Council meeting on Monday, November 24 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
