Roscoe Village residents have a colorful new reason to stroll down Lincoln Avenue with the recent installation of 'The Freedom of the Soul,' a vibrant public artwork created by artist Melina Scotte. Unveiled in 2025 as part of the Lakeview Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce's Public Art Program, the piece adds to the neighborhood's growing collection of public art installations.

The artwork, located at 3071 N Lincoln Avenue, features six human silhouettes appearing to float toward the center of the frame, surrounded by bird silhouettes representing freedom of identity. The background incorporates colors from the Progress Pride Flag, creating dynamic contrast that represents diversity within the LGBTQIA+ community. According to the Chamber's description, the colorful, abstract piece represents 'freedom, peace, and the search of identity' while celebrating Chicago's diverse communities.

This installation joins other recent public artworks in the area including Matthew Mederer's 'The Girl and the City' and Czr Prz's 'Life in the Sky' series. Residents are encouraged to explore the neighborhood's expanding outdoor art gallery by following the Lakeview Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce's public art walking guide, which maps all current installations throughout the community.
