Terror Vision Pop-Up Extends Stay in Lake View, Bringing Movie Nostalgia Through Holiday Season

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Lake View ·

Lake View film enthusiasts have reason to celebrate as the popular Terror Vision Records and Video pop-up store announces it will remain open through November, extending its originally planned six-month run. Located at 3729 N. Southport Ave., next door to the iconic Music Box Theatre, this unique venture has become an unexpected neighborhood attraction since its April opening.

The pop-up, co-founded by filmmaker Joe Swanberg and record label owner Ryan Graveface, offers an impressive selection of physical media including vinyl soundtracks, boutique Blu-rays, DVDs, and a wall of nostalgic VHS tapes from Swanberg's personal collection. While initially focused on horror and cult films, the shop has expanded its offerings to include a wide range of genres, curating special collections that complement the Music Box's monthly programming. Terror Vision has also become a community gathering spot, hosting special events and movie discussions that attract film buffs from across Chicago.

"We've been overwhelmed by the neighborhood's response," said Graveface during a recent in-store event. Lake View residents and visitors can experience this cinematic time capsule Wednesday through Sunday, with rental memberships available for those looking to rediscover the joy of physical media. As streaming services continue to dominate entertainment, Terror Vision offers a refreshing alternative that celebrates film history and the communal experience of movie discovery.
