Portage Park's New Community Pantry Program Launches December Holiday Initiative
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Portage Park ·
Portage Park residents will soon have a new way to support neighbors in need through the launch of the Community Pantry Program, coinciding with a special walking tour led by local resident Giovina Romandine. The 2.5-hour excursion, organized by Chicago for Chicagoans, will help participants explore the rich history and architecture of this incredible northside neighborhood while raising awareness for the new pantry initiative.
Several local businesses are already supporting the effort, including Distinct Bath and Body, a 12-year Portage Park staple known for its artisanal soaps, body butters, bath bombs, and natural products. The shop is offering a special "buy one, give one" promotion where customers purchasing holiday gift items can donate identical items to the community pantry. The program's central collection point will be at the park's decorative gateway entrance at Irving Park Road and Central Avenue, highlighting the 38-acre park that has become known for its lush landscaping and natural, scenic beauty while serving as a hub for community programs.
Residents interested in participating can attend the Portage Park Advisory Council meeting on Monday, December 1st from 7:00 to 8:30 PM for more details about volunteer opportunities and donation needs. The initiative aims to create a sustainable support system for families throughout the winter months while fostering greater neighborhood connection in one of Chicago's most vibrant communities.
