Albany Park's National Cambodian Heritage Museum recently hosted a powerful cultural commemoration marking 50 years since the Khmer Rouge genocide. The special event featured traditional dance performances, music, and educational displays celebrating Cambodian heritage and resilience in one of Chicago's most diverse neighborhoods.

The museum, located at 2831 W. Lawrence Avenue, is the only institution of its kind in the United States dedicated to preserving Cambodian history while providing healing space for survivors and their families. "This commemoration honors our history while showcasing the vibrant cultural contributions Cambodians have made to Albany Park's diverse community fabric," explained Laura Ouk, the museum's board president. The celebration highlighted how the arts foster understanding and healing, offering space for reflection while looking toward a hopeful future.

Residents interested in experiencing Albany Park's Cambodian cultural heritage can visit the museum Tuesday through Friday (10am-4pm) or Saturday (11am-3pm) by appointment. The institution regularly hosts cultural performances and teaches music and art classes on Saturdays, providing opportunities for community members to connect with this vital part of Albany Park's multicultural identity.
