McKinley Park's beloved seasonal ice skating rink is experiencing a delayed opening due to mechanical issues, with the Chicago Park District announcing the facility is now tentatively set to open the week of December 1, 2025. The postponement affects one of the neighborhood's most anticipated winter attractions, which typically offers a full schedule of skating programs throughout the season.

When operational, the rink will maintain regular hours through January 18, 2026, before switching to weekend-only sessions. Throughout the winter season, McKinley Park residents can enjoy a variety of skating opportunities, from open skate sessions to specialized programs in a fun environment with family and friends. Pre-registration is required for all activities, with reservations released on a rolling basis at noon on Mondays for sessions running two weeks later.

Community members looking forward to hitting the ice can take advantage of affordable admission rates that include skate rentals for just $8 per person or

0 for an adult-child pair. The rink offers special programming including drop-in learn-to-skate lessons, which provide instruction on basics like balance, forward stride, starting, and stopping. Beginners will appreciate the availability of skate helpers and the rink's welcoming atmosphere for all skill levels. Residents are encouraged to check the Chicago Park District website or call (312) 442-2194 for updates on the opening date and to register for programs once the facility is operational.
