By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Edgewater ·
Edgewater residents with an interest in local history and humor have a special opportunity this weekend as the Chicago History Book Group meets Saturday, December 13 at the Edgewater Branch of the Chicago Public Library. The 10:00 a.m. gathering in the Betty A. Barclay Community Room will feature a lively discussion of Margaret Hicks' 'Chicago Comedy: a Fairly Serious History,' exploring the city's rich comedic legacy.
The event continues the Edgewater Historical Society's tradition of engaging community programming, following their recent successful presentations on Broadway's architectural treasures and demographic shifts in the neighborhood. This book discussion complements the museum's current exhibitions, which include 'Growing Community: Luxembourgers in Edgewater' and a tribute to influential women in local history.
Community members interested in attending this free event can find the library at 6000 N. Broadway. The Historical Society reminds residents that their museum at 5358 N. Ashland Avenue remains open Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 p.m., featuring additional exhibits on Edgewater's unique heritage, including their initiative honoring the neighborhood's historic trees.
