Historic 400 Theater Set to Reopen in West Rogers Park Under New Management
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Rogers Park ·
West Rogers Park residents have cause for celebration as the historic New 400 Theaters, once Chicago's oldest continuously running movie house, is set to reopen under new management. Michigan-based exhibitor Jordan Stancil has leased the shuttered 113-year-old theater at 6746 N. Sheridan Road and plans to relaunch it simply as 'The 400 Theater' with upgraded projection equipment and expanded programming.
Stancil, who operates three historical movie theaters in Michigan including the family-owned Rialto Theater in Grayling, plans to offer a diverse mix of first-run studio releases, independent and foreign films, along with community-oriented events. 'Everyone is excited to honor The 400 Theater's unique place in the Rogers Park community,' said Stancil. 'Independent theaters enrich local culture by offering spaces for shared experiences, and I look forward to partnering with the community to make The 400 a cultural anchor once again.'
The theater, which originally opened in 1912 as the Regent before becoming the 400, closed in 2023 after struggling to recover from pandemic-era losses. Community members interested in supporting this cultural revival can follow the theater's Facebook page for upcoming announcements about the official reopening date, programming schedules, and potential volunteer opportunities.
