Englewood Connect Food Hub Set to Transform West Englewood's Culinary Scene This Winter

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·

West Englewood residents eagerly anticipate the upcoming completion of the Englewood Connect food hub, a transformative

4 million culinary center that repurposes the historic Tudor-style Engine Co. 84 firehouse at 6204 S. Green St. As construction nears its final stages, this innovative community hub promises to become a vital gathering space and economic catalyst for the neighborhood.

The adaptive reuse project will create a 9,000-square-foot culinary center and business incubator featuring commercial kitchens, entrepreneurial spaces, and a vibrant public plaza for community events. A standout feature, the 'Englewood Living Room,' will provide year-round indoor-outdoor space for exhibitions, markets, and gatherings. The development creates valuable synergies with Kennedy-King College's culinary institute and nearby urban farms, strengthening West Englewood's growing food ecosystem.

Community members interested in culinary entrepreneurship or food business development can contact the Greater Englewood Community Development Corporation for information about upcoming programs. The project, expected to create approximately 45 permanent jobs, represents a significant investment in West Englewood's economic future and reinforces the neighborhood's emergence as a hub for food innovation and community connection.
