Guzman y Gomez Mexican Restaurant Set to Open December 11 on Bucktown-Wicker Park Border

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bucktown ·

A Mexican fast-food chain called Guzman y Gomez is set to open its first Chicago restaurant on December 11 at 1624 N. Damen Avenue, on the Bucktown-Wicker Park border. Founded in 2006 in Australia by Steven Marks, the brand has rapidly expanded internationally with more than 260 locations worldwide, including Singapore and Japan.

The menu features Mexican favorites including burritos, bowls, tacos, nachos, and a signature "Cali burrito" with fries inside. Breakfast items, coffee, margaritas and beer will also be available. Founder Steven Marks has expressed enthusiasm about the location, stating "With a hugely engaged community and only a few miles from downtown, GYG is looking forward to showing the Bucktown neighborhood that fast food doesn't have to mean bad food."

The Bucktown restaurant represents a significant milestone for the company, which has been steadily expanding across the Chicago area since 2020. Guzman y Gomez currently operates locations in Evanston, Des Plaines, Naperville, and other Chicago suburbs, with plans to double its restaurants in the region over the next two to three years. Neighborhood residents interested in trying this international brand can visit the restaurant when it opens next week to experience its vibrant atmosphere and fresh take on Mexican cuisine.
