Chicago Plan Commission Approves New Luxury Retail Space on Oak Street in Streeterville

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Streeterville ·

Streeterville's luxury shopping district is set to welcome an exciting new addition as the Chicago Plan Commission recently approved plans for a striking retail development at 67 E. Oak Street. The two-story glass-fronted building, designed by Myefski Architects, will replace an existing five-story structure and create nearly 6,000 square feet of prime retail space in one of Chicago's most prestigious shopping corridors.

The modern structure will feature a sleek glass curtain wall system with bird-safe glazing and will stand 36 feet tall. Inside, shoppers will find a grand central staircase connecting the two floors, creating an open and inviting shopping environment designed for a single retail tenant. The project required approval under the Lakefront Protection Ordinance due to its location in Streeterville, with the commission giving its approval in early December. This new development continues the ongoing revitalization of the Oak Street corridor, further cementing Streeterville's reputation as a premier retail destination.

While the future tenant has not yet been announced, the building's prime location between Michigan Avenue and Rush Street positions it perfectly to attract a high-end retail brand. Construction is expected to begin in early 2026 after demolition of the existing structure. Neighborhood residents and visitors can look forward to an enhanced shopping experience with this architecturally distinctive addition to Streeterville's vibrant retail landscape.
