JitneyEV Electric Mobility Hub Completes First EV Charging Station in Historic Bronzeville Building
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bronzeville ·
The Bronzeville Community Development Partnership (BCDP) has completed installation of its first public electric vehicle charging station at their newly renovated headquarters at 2416 S. Michigan Avenue. The charging station marks a significant milestone for the organization's JitneyEV program, which aims to expand electric vehicle adoption among Black and Brown drivers while promoting clean energy solutions in this historic South Side neighborhood.
Located in Chicago's historic Motor Row district, the BCDP headquarters carries special significance as the area once housed electric automobile showrooms in the early 20th century. The multi-purpose complex now includes a garage for JitneyEV vehicles, community meeting spaces, and areas for various BCDP initiatives including the Bronzeville-Black Metropolis National Heritage Area. When fully operational, the JitneyEV rideshare service will help fill transportation gaps in Bronzeville, which has historically been underserved by public transit. Residents interested in learning more about the JitneyEV program or other sustainable initiatives can visit the BCDP's visitor center, which is now open to the public Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm.
