Washington Park Framework Plan to Include Horseback Riding Trails After Community Advocacy
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Washington Park ·
Washington Park residents are celebrating a victory for the neighborhood's historic horseback riding community as the Chicago Park District has agreed to include dedicated riding trails in its latest Framework Plan. Following significant advocacy from the South Side-based Broken Arrow Riding Club, which has been active in the park for decades, officials confirmed the trails will be part of the upcoming renovations.
The announcement came during recent community listening sessions where dozens of neighbors gathered to provide input on the future of their community's namesake greenspace. The Framework Plan, which has been in development for the past two years, will guide developments in the 153-year-old park for the next two decades. In addition to the riding trails, the plan includes proposals for constructing a new viaduct, pedestrian pathways, a track and field facility, and the highly anticipated reopening of Bynum Island.
The Washington Park Chamber of Commerce encourages residents to participate in upcoming "Unity in the Park" events to learn more about these developments. As the Framework Plan moves toward final approval, community members can stay informed by attending the Washington Park Advisory Council's monthly meetings or visiting the Chicago Park District's website for the latest updates on this historic greenspace's transformation.
