Garfield Ridge Plans Victory Garden Installation at Community Center for Spring 2026
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Garfield Ridge ·
The Garfield Ridge Neighborhood Watch (GRNW) announced plans this week for a new community victory garden to be installed at the Garfield Ridge Community Center in spring 2026. This initiative builds on the neighborhood's tradition of community engagement and aims to provide residents with opportunities for outdoor recreation, education, and fresh produce right in their neighborhood.
The project, spearheaded by GRNW board member Jason Huff, will feature raised garden beds, native plant sections, and educational areas for children to learn about sustainable gardening practices. "We're excited to transform this unused space into something beautiful that brings neighbors together and benefits the community," explained Huff, who recently organized the inaugural community softball game between residents and 8th District police officers.
Residents interested in participating in the victory garden project can attend the next GRNW general meeting at St. Faustina Ward Hall, where volunteers will discuss implementation plans and opportunities to contribute. Like all GRNW-sponsored events, participation will be free of charge and open to all community members, continuing the organization's 17-year tradition of fostering neighborhood connections through accessible programming.
