Historic 400 Theater Revitalization Brings Cinema Culture Back to West Rogers Park

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Rogers Park ·

West Rogers Park residents will soon regain a cherished cultural landmark as The 400 Theater prepares to reopen its doors under new management. Michigan-based exhibitor Jordan Stancil has leased the shuttered 113-year-old theater, which was Chicago's oldest continuously running movie house until its closure in 2023 after struggling to recover from pandemic-era losses.

Stancil, who operates three historical movie theaters in Michigan including the family-owned Rialto Theater in Grayling (established 1915), plans to restore this iconic neighborhood venue to its former glory. The theater will offer a diverse mix of programming that respects its historical significance while meeting contemporary community needs. "Everyone is excited to honor The 400 Theater's unique place in the Rogers Park community," Stancil noted in recent communications about the project.

Community members eager to support this cultural revival can follow the theater's Facebook page for upcoming announcements about the official reopening date and programming schedules. The 400 Theater's return represents a significant investment in West Rogers Park's cultural infrastructure and promises to once again serve as a gathering place for film enthusiasts and neighborhood residents alike.
