West Pullman to Welcome New Cultural Dining Destination as Ethola Restaurant Construction Set for Early 2026
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman residents will soon have a new dining destination as plans move forward for Ethola Restaurant and BSCP Hall, a combined restaurant and event space at 846 W. 119th St. The development, spearheaded by Dr. Adelanke Bademosi, aims to transform a long-vacant building into a vibrant cultural hub offering Afro-Caribbean cuisine in a community lacking sit-down restaurant options.
"We know how important this is for our community. There really aren't that many places to have a sit-down dinner," said project representatives. The venue will feature live jazz performances, weekly happy hours, and a rooftop area for warmer months. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with an anticipated opening in the first quarter of 2027. The $4 million development is being funded through a combination of equity, private funds, and a request for matching support from the City of Chicago's Medium Grant Program. The BSCP Hall portion of the venue is named for the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the nation's first Black-led labor union founded in neighboring Pullman, honoring its legacy as a symbol of the rise of the Black middle class and once the largest employer of Black men in the country.
