Thrive Englewood Welcomes First Residents, Marking Historic Housing Milestone for West Englewood
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·
West Englewood residents are celebrating a transformative moment as Thrive Englewood officially welcomes its first residents this December, marking the community's first new family housing development in over 50 years. Located at 6249 S. Sangamon St., the recently completed six-story building features 62 apartments with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, alongside two live/work lofts and ground-floor retail space.
The $40.2 million development represents a significant investment in West Englewood's revitalization, with over 80% of units designated as affordable housing for families earning up to 60% of the area's median income. In partnership with Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) of Chicago, Thrive Englewood offers residents on-site financial education, counseling, and stability resources designed to help families build stronger financial futures. The building's location near the 63rd/Halsted Green Line station connects residents to opportunities across Chicago.
"Today we celebrate more than just a building—this is the beginning of a movement to bring families back to Englewood and set community members up for long-term success," said Leon Walker, CEO of DL3 Realty, the team behind the successful Englewood Square shopping center. West Englewood residents interested in learning more about future housing opportunities can contact Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago or visit the Greater Englewood Community Development Corporation for information.
