Bronzeville Trail Breaks Ground Near Oakland, Creating New Green Connection for South Side
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Oakland ·
Oakland residents received exciting news this week as construction officially began on the Bronzeville Trail, a transformative project that will create a walking and biking path connecting Oakland to neighboring communities. The two-mile trail, developed on abandoned elevated Kenwood CTA train tracks, will run between 40th Street and Dearborn Avenue to 41st Street and Lake Park Avenue.
This project is being hailed as the South Side's answer to the popular 606 Trail in Bucktown and Humboldt Park. While completion is expected by 2030, the groundbreaking marks a significant milestone in improving green space access for Oakland residents, who already enjoy proximity to lakefront parks but will now gain additional recreational opportunities. Oakland's unique position along Lake Michigan, with residential areas to the west of Lake Shore Drive and public parks to the east, makes it an ideal neighborhood to benefit from enhanced connectivity to surrounding community assets.
Residents interested in learning more about the Bronzeville Trail project or volunteering for upcoming community beautification efforts along the planned route are encouraged to attend the next Mandrake Park Advisory Council meeting. The project represents another positive step in Oakland's continued revitalization as a flourishing South Side community with strong local organizations fostering community engagement.
