Some park projects from the recently approved funds, like the new football field, are already underway using district dollars, with work continuing through December. The field will cost $400,000 and represents a significant achievement for the Patriots. "This is the first football field ever in Humboldt Park," noted Alderperson Jessie Fuentes. "Unfortunately, [the Humboldt Park Patriots] have had to paint their lines every single game, and they don't have seating for families. This is going to allow us to put up the recreational space the team deserves."
The football field is just one component of the comprehensive improvements spreading across Humboldt Park this winter. Other projects include renovating the lower level of the field house with new function rooms and infrastructure upgrades to prevent flooding, paired with accessibility improvements across the entire park. The park's formal garden will receive enhancements, while the tennis courts and standalone restrooms undergo rehabilitation. Additionally, the existing pool house will see an extensive overhaul, and the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture will gain a new gallery under a glass atrium at the center of the building, along with added community garden space. Residents interested in learning more about these transformative projects can contact the Humboldt Park Advisory Council for upcoming meeting information.
