Albany Park's National Cambodian Heritage Museum is enriching the neighborhood's cultural landscape this winter with a series of special art workshops highlighting traditional Khmer crafts and heritage. The museum, located at 2831 W. Lawrence Avenue, has announced a December workshop series where community members can learn to create traditional elephant sculptures and Chan flower tiles in the authentic Khmer style.
Participants' creations will be showcased in the museum's ongoing exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Cambodian genocide, alongside works from other Cambodian American artists. "These workshops provide a meaningful way for our community to connect with Cambodian cultural traditions while celebrating resilience and healing through art," explains Laura Ouk, board president of the museum. The institution remains a vital cultural anchor in Albany Park, offering programs that preserve heritage while building cross-cultural understanding in one of Chicago's most diverse neighborhoods.
Community members interested in participating can register through the museum's website, with spaces limited to 15 participants per session. All materials and tools are included in the tuition fee, and completed pieces will be returned to their creators after the exhibition concludes in early June. For more information or to register, residents can contact the museum directly or visit cambodianmuseum.org.
