Oakland's Mandrake Park Launches 'Winter Wellness Series' with New Community Fitness Trail
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Oakland ·
Oakland residents have a new reason to visit Mandrake Park this winter as the Chicago Park District unveils a specialized Winter Wellness Series featuring a newly installed fitness trail. The initiative, launched December 10, combines outdoor exercise with community engagement through guided fitness sessions held three times weekly at the park's athletic facilities.
Mandrake Park Advisory Council president Maya Thompson announced the program during their December meeting, highlighting how the weather-resistant exercise stations were designed with community input. "These new installations give our neighborhood another way to stay active during winter months," Thompson shared. The fitness trail represents another milestone in Oakland's ongoing community development, connecting the park's quarter-mile running track with strategically placed exercise stations featuring instructional plaques.
Residents interested in exploring the new fitness amenities can join guided tours every Saturday morning at 9:00 AM through January. The next Mandrake Park Advisory Council meeting on December 22 at 6:30 PM will include discussion of additional winter programming and volunteer opportunities for community members looking to support this neighborhood wellness initiative.
