Tesseract Cinema Plans Pop-Up Events This Winter as Pilsen's First Micro-Theater Fundraising Gains Momentum
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Pilsen ·
Pilsen residents will soon have a unique cultural addition to the neighborhood as Tesseract Cinema, an employee-owned micro-theater and cafe project, prepares to host its first winter pop-up events. The innovative cinema concept, which has been actively fundraising to establish a permanent location in Pilsen, will offer movie screenings, community gatherings, and feature pop-up food concessions prioritizing local vendors.
Founder Josh Oakley, who once lived in Pilsen, chose the neighborhood specifically because it lacks independent movie theaters like those found on Chicago's North Side. "After working in several Los Angeles theaters, I'm moving back to Chicago this fall with plans of finally opening my own theater where my heart is," Oakley shared. While working toward securing a permanent location, Tesseract Cinema will begin hosting pop-up film events throughout Pilsen this winter, giving residents a taste of what's to come.
The project's guiding philosophy emphasizes inclusivity in cinema: "All films are valid and all people are welcome," according to Tesseract's mission statement. The theater plans to showcase everything from blockbusters to personal projects, celebrating cinema in all its forms. Pilsen residents interested in supporting this cultural addition to the neighborhood can follow Tesseract Cinema on social media for announcements about upcoming pop-up events and opportunities to contribute to their community-focused vision.
