Construction Timeline Confirmed: West Loop's First Aldi Store Breaking Ground Early 2025

The West Loop's grocery landscape is about to transform with Aldi confirming plans to open its first store in the neighborhood at 1016 W. Jackson Boulevard in 2026. The discount grocery chain has officially signed a lease for approximately 22,000 square feet at the base of a planned 25-story apartment complex being developed by Chicago-based Mavrek Development.

Construction on the

55 million mixed-use development is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with the grocery store expected to open in the second half of 2026. Skender will serve as the general contractor for the project, which is now advancing through the permit approval process. The development will feature 380 apartments, including 76 affordable units, with the Aldi store anchoring the ground floor retail space. The building will also include 163 parking stalls and 380 bike parking spaces, supporting the neighborhood's increasingly pedestrian and cyclist-friendly character.

The new grocery option comes at a perfect time for the rapidly growing West Loop community, where more than 2,000 apartments are either recently completed or currently under construction. The store's strategic location at West Jackson Boulevard and Morgan Street will serve not only the influx of new residents but also the nearby Illinois Medical District and University of Illinois Chicago communities.
