Chef Joe Flamm's Roman-Inspired 'il Carciofo' Makes Splashy West Loop Debut
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Loop ·
West Loop's vibrant culinary scene welcomes an exciting new addition this month with the opening of il Carciofo, an authentic Roman Italian restaurant from acclaimed chef Joe Flamm. Located in the historic Fulton Market district at the corner of Fulton and Aberdeen, the restaurant has quickly become one of the neighborhood's most sought-after reservations since opening its doors on December 12.
The restaurant, whose name means "the Artichoke" in Italian, draws inspiration from Flamm's experiences working in Roman kitchens in 2017. The menu showcases seasonal Italian fare including imported Roman artichokes fried slowly and tossed with pecorino romano cheese, hand-rolled pastas produced daily in a dedicated pasta lab, and Roman-style pizza al taglio with a light, airy crust. The beverage program, led by veteran bar manager Kyle Davidson, features an all-Italian wine list with emphasis on selections from around Rome, alongside cocktails designed to complement each stage of the dining experience.
West Loop residents looking to experience il Carciofo are encouraged to make reservations well in advance, as tables are booking quickly for this latest venture from Flamm, who also operates the acclaimed Rose Mary and BLVD Steakhouse in the neighborhood. This opening reinforces the West Loop's status as Chicago's premier dining destination, giving community members another reason to celebrate the neighborhood's world-class culinary scene.
