Frigid Temperatures No Match for Garfield Ridge's Santa Fire Truck Tradition

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Garfield Ridge ·

The Garfield Ridge Neighborhood Watch defied bitter December cold last weekend to deliver holiday cheer throughout the community with their beloved Santa on the Fire Truck tradition. Despite freezing temperatures, Santa Claus, Frosty, and dedicated neighborhood watch board members rode atop the 'Fire It Up Now' fire truck, visiting every street in Garfield Ridge for the first time thanks to an optimized route created by event organizer Janja Taylor.

Residents of all ages embraced the festive spirit, with families rushing to windows, doorways, and sidewalks to catch a glimpse of Santa, many bundled in blankets and heavy coats to brave the cold. The seven-hour journey covered 40 miles of neighborhood streets, with the Chicago Lawn District police providing traffic assistance. The neighborhood watch's social media team kept residents updated with real-time location tracking throughout the night, helping families know exactly when Santa would arrive on their block.

The annual tradition, which began in 2016, demonstrates the Garfield Ridge Neighborhood Watch's commitment to fostering community connections through accessible programming. Residents who missed the fire truck visit can find information about other upcoming holiday activities on the GRNW website or social media pages.
