Guzman y Gomez Celebrates Successful Bucktown Grand Opening with Local Festivities

Bucktown welcomed its newest dining destination as Guzman y Gomez (GYG) celebrated a vibrant grand opening at 1624 N. Damen Avenue on December 11. Despite snowy conditions, the Australian-founded Mexican fast-food chain's first Chicago city location drew enthusiastic crowds throughout its opening day, which featured live music, merchandise giveaways, and even an appearance by Skates, the Chicago Wolves mascot.

The restaurant, which operates from early morning until 1 a.m., has already created approximately 40 local jobs while establishing itself as both a breakfast spot and late-night dining option for the neighborhood. "We wanted to show the Bucktown neighborhood that fast food doesn't have to mean bad food," noted founder and Co-CEO Steven Marks, who attended the celebration. The menu features Mexican-inspired favorites including burritos, bowls, tacos, and their signature "Cali burrito" with fries inside, along with breakfast items, coffee, margaritas, and beer.

Neighborhood residents interested in trying the new establishment can take advantage of a special promotion offering a free burrito when downloading the GYG app. The Bucktown location marks GYG's eighth restaurant in the Chicagoland area but its first within city limits, further enhancing the area's diverse dining options as the holiday season approaches.
