The Near West Side neighborhood is closing out 2025 with promising growth as City Council has approved a new five-story residential development at 2411 W. Congress Parkway. The modern building, approved on December 25th, will add 58 residential units and 25 parking spaces to the neighborhood, representing continued investment in the area's housing infrastructure.

This development joins several other transformative projects on the Near West Side, which has become a major center of growth in Chicago. According to recent data from the Chicago Plan Commission, the Near West Side's 27th Ward has seen 36 new projects totaling

3 billion in investment between January 2023 and September 2025, making it one of the city's most dynamic neighborhoods for development.

Meanwhile, residents looking for community engagement during the holiday weekend can participate in Malcolm X College's Kwanzaa celebration, running December 26 through January 1. This annual tradition offers Near West Side residents a meaningful opportunity to celebrate community values and cultural heritage right in their neighborhood. For more information about the Kwanzaa celebration or to learn about other upcoming community events, residents can visit Malcolm X College's website or contact the West Central Association.
