Jefferson Park's New Northwest Art Trail Transforms Milwaukee Avenue into Cultural Corridor

Jefferson Park residents now have a vibrant new way to experience their neighborhood with the recent unveiling of the Northwest Art Trail. The 2-mile outdoor sculpture walk along Milwaukee Avenue features ten stunning sculptures, including five newly installed pieces, connecting the Jefferson Park and Portage Park business districts.
The art trail, which officially launched on October 4, stretches from the Six Corners shopping area to just past the intersection of Milwaukee and Foster avenues. The project was spearheaded by Arts Alive Chicago and received funding through a $300,000 capital improvement grant sponsored by state Senator Robert Martwick. Among the eye-catching new installations, visitors can spot a 13-foot woman in a flowing white dress outside Parkway Bank, an 8-foot dragonfly near the Jefferson Park Transit Center, and a bright red figure frozen mid-run atop a white column near Wilson Park.
The primary goal of the sculpture walk is to attract more visitors to local businesses while highlighting arts organizations in the area, including the Filament Theatre, Gift Theatre, Copernicus Center, and Paschke Art Center. Arts Alive Chicago curated diverse works from Chicago sculptors, working with local Chambers of Commerce to select styles, materials, and locations. Many chamber members helped choose the trail marker design and offered their buildings as permanent homes for markers.
