Innovative 50-Story Metropolis Pointe Development Unveiled for Bronzeville's Northern Gateway
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bronzeville ·
Bronzeville residents got their first detailed look at an ambitious new development proposal that could transform the neighborhood's northern edge. Developer JC Griffin presented plans for Metropolis Pointe, a $900 million project that would bring nearly 600 apartments and 30 condominiums to the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and 26th Street.
The development's most striking feature is a 50-story bronze-colored tower with a 16,800-square-foot "sky veranda" observation deck. But what truly sets this proposal apart is its innovative energy approach - the project would include a data center whose excess heat would help power hundreds of residences. "This is a way to make the data center work for the community," Griffin explained during the December 12th community meeting. Houston-based CenTrio Energy has already expressed interest in developing this energy-efficient system.
Metropolis Pointe would occupy 6.6 acres between McCormick Place and the Bronzeville Lakefront development. Griffin hopes to secure city approvals in 2026 with construction potentially starting in mid-2027. Community members interested in learning more or providing feedback can attend future public meetings as Griffin continues gathering neighborhood support for the privately-funded development.
