New Transit-Oriented Development Project Slated for Archer Avenue in Garfield Ridge

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Garfield Ridge ·

Garfield Ridge residents can look forward to enhanced commercial options along Archer Avenue as the City of Chicago's Department of Planning and Development announces the next phase of the Moving Archer Forward initiative. The comprehensive development project, which began in 2025, is now entering its implementation stage with a focus on transit access and Equitable Transit-Oriented Development near CTA Orange Line stations.

The project, which covers critical portions of Garfield Ridge's main commercial corridor, has already attracted professional businesses to the western end of Archer Avenue. "This stretch has taken on an entirely new look with professionals renting and buying almost every available space," noted Mary Ellen Brown, president of the Garfield Ridge Chamber of Commerce. Local business owners are encouraged to participate in the upcoming informational sessions hosted by the Chamber, where they can learn about development opportunities and small business support resources available through the initiative.

Residents interested in contributing to the neighborhood's commercial future can attend the next community meeting scheduled for January 15 at the Garfield Ridge Community Center. The Department of Planning and Development welcomes public input on priorities for future development along this vital corridor, which serves as the economic lifeline of the neighborhood.
