McKinley Community Play Garden Unveils New Mural Project for Early 2026

McKinley Park residents will have a vibrant new reason to visit the beloved McKinley Community Play Garden this winter. After a successful community voting process that concluded in September 2025, artists are now preparing to implement the winning mural design at the play garden located at 3518 S. Wolcott Avenue. The colorful installation, scheduled for completion in mid-January 2026, represents the latest collaborative effort between the McKinley Park Development Council and neighborhood artists to beautify public spaces.

The mural project builds upon several successful community-driven initiatives that have transformed the neighborhood over the past year, including the popular McKinley Park Pop Ups that brought together local businesses, community groups, and artists along 35th Street. "This mural isn't just about adding color to our community spaces—it's about reflecting the diverse identity of our neighborhood through public art," explained a representative from the McKinley Park Development Council who helped coordinate the project.

Residents interested in witnessing the mural's installation can visit the McKinley Community Play Garden throughout January, with a special ribbon-cutting celebration being planned for late January 2026.
