Irving Park Businesses Gain Momentum for New Special Service Area as Community Investment District Moves Forward

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Irving Park ·

Irving Park small business owners are celebrating a significant milestone as their proposal for a new Special Service Area (SSA) around the Irving Park Road and Elston Avenue corridor moves closer to reality. The community investment district, championed by local business group Explore Irving Park Chicago (EIPC), has received preliminary approval from city officials and is on track for potential establishment in early 2026.

The initiative, led by 13 area businesses including Extensions Dance Center, aims to transform the neighborhood through beautification projects, public art installations, and enhanced community events. Local businesses have partnered with the Pulaski Elston Business Association (PEBA) to guide the application process, with city officials currently reviewing the feasibility assessment.

Neighbors can expect the new SSA to support seasonal decorations, community murals, and expanded support for local events that showcase Irving Park's growing reputation as a unique shopping and dining destination. Similar districts in nearby neighborhoods have successfully funded initiatives like Lincoln Square's popular Apple Fest and PEBA's Live on Lawrence music series. Irving Park residents interested in learning more about the proposed community investment district can attend upcoming information sessions where plans for the corridor's future will be shared.
