Englewood Connect Food Hub Nears Completion, Set to Transform West Englewood's Culinary Landscape

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Englewood ·

West Englewood residents are eagerly anticipating the imminent completion of the Englewood Connect food hub, a transformative

0.3 million "eco-food hub" project that will establish culinary-related uses designed to empower, employ, and feed local residents. The innovative development is adaptively reusing the landmark Green Street fire station as a commercial kitchen, creating a business incubator to train start-up businesses, and establishing a community "living room" for local events, all centered around a vibrant public plaza that will serve as its focal point.

Future phases of the project will include a flexible market space and an event center, creating approximately 45 permanent full-time positions for West Englewood residents. The project represents a significant investment in the neighborhood's growing food ecosystem, creating valuable synergies with Kennedy-King College's culinary institute and nearby urban farms. As the second phase of the successful Englewood Square development, Englewood Connect promises to become a vital gathering space and economic catalyst for the neighborhood. Residents interested in culinary entrepreneurship opportunities can contact the Greater Englewood Community Development Corporation for information about upcoming training programs and business development resources.
