Picnic Date Bodega Brings Creative Grocery-Themed Marketplace to West Town

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Town ·

West Town's retail scene is getting a creative boost with the opening of Picnic Date Bodega, a unique boutique selling "grocery-inspired" jewelry, art, and other goods that will operate through July. The shop is one of the latest tenants in the West Town Chamber of Commerce's successful pop-up project, which provides small businesses with subsidized short-term leases and resources to establish brick-and-mortar locations.

Located at 1821 W. Chicago Ave. next to the chamber's offices, this Black and queer-owned pop-up will run from January 31st to July 20th, hosting workshops, pop-up artists, and various activities. Visitors can discover unique jewelry, home decor, and art prints in the creatively transformed space that resembles a mini grocery store—just without actual food. The pop-up program has welcomed more than two dozen tenants since launching in 2021, with some participants going on to establish permanent businesses in the West Town area.

West Town residents and visitors can explore Picnic Date Bodega during its operating hours: 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays, noon-6 p.m. Thursdays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays. The shop offers a perfect opportunity to support local artisans while discovering unique handcrafted items that celebrate the neighborhood's creative spirit. Stop by this weekend to experience this innovative retail concept and connect with the diverse artistic community that continues to make West Town a destination for shopping and culture.
