Boxville Marketplace Expands with Winter Artisan Series Launching in Bronzeville

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bronzeville ·

Bronzeville's innovative Boxville Marketplace is kicking off 2026 with an exciting new Winter Artisan Series, bringing together local entrepreneurs and community members despite the January chill. The shipping container mall, located near the 51st Street Green Line station, continues to evolve as a vibrant hub for South Side small businesses and community engagement.

The Winter Artisan Series, launched in partnership with the Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Build Bronzeville, features rotating pop-up shops from emerging local craftspeople and food vendors. "This winter initiative demonstrates our commitment to year-round economic opportunity in Bronzeville," explains Bernard Loyd, founder of Urban Juncture which oversees the marketplace. What began in 2017 with just a few shipping containers has grown into a bustling commercial center with over 20 enterprises operating throughout the year, creating a model for accessible entrepreneurship in historically disinvested communities.

Residents interested in supporting local businesses or exploring entrepreneurial opportunities can visit Boxville's Winter Artisan Series each weekend throughout January and February. The marketplace also offers small business development workshops and community events at its heated Neighborhood Square gathering space. For event details and vendor applications, community members can visit boxville.org or the Build Bronzeville website.
