New Ethola Restaurant and BSCP Hall to Transform West Pullman's Dining Scene
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·
West Pullman residents will soon have a vibrant new dining and event space as Dr. Adelanke Bademosi's Ethola Restaurant and BSCP Hall progresses toward completion. Located at 846 W. 119th St., the development aims to bring a fast-casual Afro-Caribbean culinary experience to the neighborhood while honoring local history.
The project features a multi-purpose venue including a rooftop area for warm weather gatherings, weekly happy hours, and most importantly, a hospitality training program. Through partnerships with Community Assistance Programs (CAPs) and the Illinois Restaurant Association, the initiative will provide workforce development opportunities for local residents. "This is a place for us to celebrate great moments, but also to plan future events and moments to come," said Ald. Ronnie Mosley (21st Ward), noting the project aligns with the Far South Side Quality of Life plan created in 2021.
Bademosi, a medical physician who practices in South Shore, named the event space after the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the nation's first Black-led labor union founded in neighboring Pullman, paying homage to the historic organization that became a symbol of the rise of the Black middle class. Residents can learn more about construction timelines and upcoming community events at the next 21st Ward meeting.
