Fiber Friends Studios Weaves Community Together at New Hyde Park Location

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Hyde Park ·

Hyde Park's vibrant arts community is celebrating a significant addition as Fiber Friends Studios has established its first permanent storefront at 1744 E. 55th Street. The cozy yarn shop, which previously operated as a mobile meetup service across Chicago's South Side, opened its doors in late April after founder Tina Miklas seized the opportunity when Unbeatable Eatables closed its doors earlier this year.

The new studio offers a diverse selection of wool and versatile fibers for knitting and crocheting enthusiasts, along with embroidery supplies and sewing notions. Beyond retail, Fiber Friends Studios hosts regular classes for beginners and experienced crafters alike, with weekly evening meetups on Thursdays and Fridays from 6-8 p.m. The space allows Miklas to achieve her vision of hosting multiple classes simultaneously while continuing to organize community-focused events like 'Soup and Stitch' gatherings.

Fiber Friends Studios also maintains its commitment to community service, with members supporting charitable projects including Knitted Knockers for women who have undergone mastectomies and the 'Warm-up Hyde Park' initiative, which provides knitted winter accessories for neighborhood residents in need. Crafting enthusiasts interested in joining the community can visit the shop Wednesdays through Fridays from noon to 8 p.m. or weekends from noon to 5 p.m.
