McKinley Park's Former Church Campus Secures
50,000 City Grant for Cultural Center Transformation

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Mckinley Park ·

A former church campus in McKinley Park is set to be transformed into a vibrant cultural and social resource center called Atrium Thirty-Six, located at 3619 S. Hoyne Ave. The project recently secured up to

50,000 in pre-development grant funding from the City of Chicago to support eligible design and engineering fees as part of Mayor Brandon Johnson's $33 million community development initiative announced on January 6, 2026.

"Lasting prosperity within our communities begins with revitalization efforts that center equity, community-driven development, and each neighborhood's unique needs," Mayor Brandon Johnson said about the initiative. "Through this investment, the City is doubling down on its role as a partner, empowering the businesses and organizations that are already serving our people and shaping our city's future." The grant is funded through the mayor's

.25 billion Housing and Economic Development Bond and the Neighborhood Opportunity Fund (NOF), which uses downtown construction fees to support small business and cultural projects contributing to increased vitality within West, Southwest and South Side commercial corridors.

Residents interested in learning more about the Atrium Thirty-Six project can attend upcoming McKinley Park Development Council meetings, where community input will help shape this exciting new cultural space. The next submission deadline for similar Community Development Grant and NOF applications is February 13, 2026, for those interested in pursuing neighborhood improvement projects.
