Next Stop: Chicago Art Project Launches Winter Mural Installations Across Bronzeville

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Bronzeville ·

Bronzeville residents can now experience a fresh wave of artistic expression brightening the winter landscape as the 'Next Stop: Chicago' art project unveils its January installations at key neighborhood locations. Build Bronzeville, in partnership with Gertie, a civic and cultural agency, is expanding the Bronzeville Murals Project with new artworks at three central community hubs: the Boxville shipping container market, Bronzeville Cookin' culinary facility at 51st Street, and The Forum at 43rd Street.

The winter series draws inspiration from the historic Wall of Respect—the first large-scale outdoor community mural in the United States that was created in Bronzeville nearly 60 years ago. According to Build Bronzeville organizers, the installations are designed not only to celebrate the neighborhood's rich cultural heritage but also to drive economic growth through creative placemaking. Local artists are working alongside community members to create murals focusing on the theme of 'Culture, Commerce & Community,' highlighting Bronzeville as a hub for Black entrepreneurship and creativity.

Community members interested in viewing the new murals can join the upcoming weekend walking tours starting at Boxville (320 E. 51st Street). The project will culminate in a special community celebration in February, featuring local musicians, food vendors, and interactive art activities. Residents can learn more about upcoming events or volunteer opportunities by visiting the Build Bronzeville website or following the Next Stop: Chicago social media channels.
