Westhaven Park Station Opens, Bringing Transit-Connected Housing to Near West Side

Near West Side residents are celebrating the completion of Westhaven Park Station, a new 12-story mixed-income apartment building at 145 N. Damen Avenue. The development marks the final phase of the decades-long redevelopment of the former Henry Horner Homes site, transforming what was once public housing into a modern, transit-oriented community.
The recently completed project, constructed by McShane Construction Company and joint venture partner Ashlaur Construction, features 96 mixed-income units and is already fully leased. The building includes 38 Chicago Housing Authority units, 25 affordable units for families earning up to 60% of the area median income, and 33 market-rate apartments. The development's strategic location across from the new Green Line station at Damen and Lake brings equitable transportation benefits to residents, creating a more walkable neighborhood and transforming what was once a site of neglect into a symbol of renewal.
Residents can enjoy modern amenities including three commercial retail spaces, indoor bike storage, a fitness center, community room, and an outdoor roof deck with views toward downtown. This development, along with the adjacent Damen Green Line Station, represents a significant transformation for the Near West Side, bringing vital infrastructure and increased mobility to the area after nearly 75 years without elevated train access.
